At the Facebook F8 conference yesterday, the social networking company announced that Spotify is coming to Facebook with integration for both music listeners and bands. As part of the new Open Graph project, Facebook has teamed up with multiple music companies to bring real-time streaming of music and music discovery to your timeline.

Facebook’s music partners include Spotify, Rhapsody, MOG, Rdio, SoundCloud, Earbits, Vevo, Slacker Radio and Songza. For users of these services, you’ll soon see these music services integrated into your timeline and allowing you to listen to the music from within your timeline.

At F8, Spotify CEO, Daniel Elk came on to share the great news on stage and share some statistics about the Spotify users who have conned their Facebook accounts to the music service.

According to the Spotify CEO, users that have connected their Facebook accounts listen to more music, listen to a wider variety and are twice as likely to pay for music. Spotify CEO also talked about their partnership with Facebook and using it as a catalyst to find new bands and share playlists with friends and see what other friends are listening too.

Like we said before, Spotify will be appearing more around Facebook in the form as play buttons. You’ll be able to listen to new music in your Facebook newsfeed via a seamless way to not distract your Facebook experience.

Spotify isn’t the only service getting this special treatment, other launch partners are getting the real-time music treatment and integrating into newsfeeds. Spotify is getting special treatment with this release because it’s free and worldwide so it isn’t locked into a specific country or region.

It’s interesting to see that Facebook is partnering with other music services instead of building their own music platform. This is a plus for Facebook because they get to not worry about licensing the music and just focus on connecting users to the music.
