Unified Online ID For Americans

We are almost getting to the point where we just have a single ID for our browsing use instead of remembering usernames and passwords for our online use.

President Obama has taken steps forward to giving every citizen a unique online ID as a cybersecurity initiative by the U.S. Commerce. Called the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace, the idea is to provide every U.S. citizen with a single online ID to sign-in to multiple sites, pages, and platforms. U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said that the new system would not be a national ID card, or a system controlled by the government, but to enhance security and reduce the need for people to memorize dozens of passwords online.

It is currently in a drafting stage and is expected to have more development over the next few months.
