Is It Illegal To Get Up When The 'Fasten Seat Belt' Sign Is On?

When flying the age old question pops up: Can you get up when the ‘Fasten Seat Belt’ sign is on? We see it pretty much every time we fly, just seconds after takeoff and someone is already up trying to use the bathroom or wants to get something out of the overhead bins.

According to federal law it is illegal to get up when the ‘Fasten Seat Belt’ sign is on and you can be prosecuted for it if the airline really wants to press charges.

The fact is however that most airlines don’t enforce the law but rather inform you of it, reasons of which are explained in the video.
