Homeland Security Department To Use Twitter And Facebook For Terrorism Alerts

Most United State citizens are aware of the Homeland Security color-coded terrorism alert chart. That famous chart from red to green that alerts most citizens of the current state of security of the nation.

According to documents obtained by the Associated Press the US Homeland Security will deploy a two leveled alert system, “elevated” and “imminent”. These warnings will be published to Twitter and Facebook “when appropriate” so not to cause mass panic with daily status changes.

In the documents obtained by the Associated Press there was no indication on exactly how the alerts will be announced or published. What we do know is that both Twitter and Facebook have committed to aiding the US Homeland Security Department in any way for the matter.

The documents indicate that this new system will be implemented by April 27th. There is also no word on how the alerts for this system will be setup.
