LastPass Adds Account Monitoring

Got LastPass? If you do, great; you’ve got another addition to your LastPass account that is free to all users using the service; account monitoring.

After multiple, high-profile, website breaches (including LinkedIn, Last.fm, and Apple’s UDID), LastPass has added a new feature called LastPass Sentry. LastPass Sentry is a service in LastPass that will automatically email you whenever the service detects a breach on one of your online account.

In detail, the company has partnered with PwnedList to offer the service. PwnedList is a service that databases publicly leaked usernames and passwords (currently, it has about 24 million publicly leaked usernames and passwords, and growing) and LastPass Sentry checks PwnedList daily to see if there is a match with one of its users and the database information. If there is a match, an email notification is sent to the LastPass user, notifying them of the domain that was breached and recommends to change it as soon as possible.

The company has said that the feature will be available to all free, premium users, and even enterprise users. For enterprise users, if there is a match, an email notification is sent to the LastPass employee user as well as the enterprise administrator. The company has said that it has already generated positive feedback on the new feature and plans to make the database checks more frequent.

It will be likely that more people will sign up for LastPass just for the Sentry security. Hopefully, those users will not use “password” for their password.
