New Roku Product Takes Aim At Apple TV
Competition just got fierce in the world of streaming media players. One of the popular companies in this area, Roku, has just announced a new selection of their streaming media device, that looks to be taking direct aim at Apple TV.
This new line of products form Roku products isn’t just aimed at Apple TV, but any of the streaming media players, like Google TV and Boxee Box.
Roku’s new line includes three new modles that have been priced at $60, $80, and $100. Roku boasts that each model will support built-in wireless and HD Streaming. The two higher models will support 1080p streaming. This is something that is shooting Apple TV directly down because Apple does not support HD 1080p.
Unlike Apple TV, the new Roku devices will support multiple content networks including Amazon VOD, Pandora, MLB TV, Netflix, Flickr, and MOG. These very powerful devices are reported to be smaller than their older counterparts.
Each of the boxes feature 802.11 b/g wi-fi with the top models supporting wireless N. Each box also boasts 720p video streaming with 1080p again on the higher models and they include both HDMI and composite ports to fit almost any TV. With an added bonus, each box supports full 5.1 surround sound.
These new boxes amazingly will be very stiff competition for Apple and could take on any competitor that comes their way.
