Apple Nears 10 Billion App Downloads

It seems like just yesterday that Apple celebrated their 3 billionth app download. Today in a press release from Apple, we are now on our way to 10 billion.

For our viewing pleasure Apple put up a counter to mark the nearing of the new milestone for Apple. Apple’s App Store has been a major success. Mid-2009 Apple passed their 2 billion app downloads, and on New Years of 2010 Apple passed 3 billion. Just about one year later that number tripled to the current number we see today. Watching the number of apps triple like this shows what a value the App store is to users of mobile devices.

For their 10 billionth app, Apple will give a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card to the person who downloads the 10 billionth app. So, keep an eye on the site and get to downloading!
