iPads To Start Selling in China on July 20th

While Apple’s newest iPad are out in the United States for a while, over in China, the newest iPads are not out yet; but that may change soon.

Apple announced on Tuesday that the iPad will go on sale in China starting July 20th, 2012. The massive delay was caused by a lawsuit by a Chinese company called Proview. Although they have sold off the trademark several years ago, Proview claims that it had the legal right to the “iPad” name in China. After months of fighting over the trademark in China, Proview and Apple has settled the suit with Apple paying $60 million United States dollars (which is around 400000000 Chinese yuan) to Proview for the iPad trademark.

Apple has said that the Wi-Fi (WLAN) and 3G models of the iPad will both be launched on July 20th. One thing Apple has noted is that the iPads will be taking reservations to pick up their iPads starting July 19th, though they are only opening to pre-orders between 9AM and 12PM. As of right now, Apple has not listed pricing for the iPads to be sold in China so these are estimated cost based on the iPad 2 prices.

  • 16GB = $499 (2988 Chinese Yuan)
  • 32GB = $599 (3688 Chinese Yuan)
  • 64GB = $699 (4488 Chinese Yuan)
