Windows 8 to Support ARM

The rumors have proved true once again, Windows 8 to support ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) in the up and coming devices.

Current Windows versions support the x86 based architecture utilized by both AMD and Intel processors. The next version of Windows will support a system called System on a Chip (SoC) architecture, this includes the one design by ARM.

More importantly, Windows 8 will support ARM-based systems from other manufactures like NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, and Qualcomm. Something to note is the new version of Windows 8 will be separate from the Windows Phone 7 OS, which is already utilizing the ARM architecture.

President of the Windows Live Division, Steven Sinofsky said, “With today’s announcement, we’re showing the flexibility and resiliency of Windows through the power of software and a commitment to world-class engineering,”

For the most part, we’ve already known Microsoft’s intentions to support ARM last month. The strengths of the device are far and many, bring able to operate on low-power devices, and utilize a tablet device efficiently.
